The question came to me early
What would be the thing that would make me feel good?
Amid troubled times
At home and afar,
Some things must be doggedly true
For me to “feel good.”
I realize there are levels to how we feel.
Some good feelings come from the necessities,
While others come from the abundance.
But all things being equal,
I wonder, what’s the bare minimum for us to feel good?
One tidbit says it like this:
True goodness in life often
Comes from the inside out,
Not from perfect circumstances.
If the “inside” is the measure of goodness,
Then I truly feel great!
Even when badgered by self-doubt
Or confused with the next steps.
At one level, I feel good when I feel safe.
I feel good when I can laugh and love.
Or when there’s no threat in my court,
Or when I know I can reach those who are important to me,
….and they respond.
There’s a roof over the head, food in the cupboard
And a modicum of health that says all must be good.
I especially feel good knowing who my friends are,
And those I can trust to oversee my well-being.
I feel good when my love is with me day and night.
With just a scent of water,
A plant will bud (Job 14:9)
Even though the struggle is not yet conquered
Nor a harvest given, nor winter sleep arrived,
Even the bare beginnings of life make me feel good.
I feel good when I know where I’m going,
And I have a purpose for my next step.
Connected and balanced, I make my way through life.
Stress may exist, but it doesn’t control
And the anchor of my soul is sure and steadfast (Hebrews 6:19)
There are so many avenues of finding the good,
If you must narrow it down to one thing,
It’s that I feel Good when I can take the time to think.
For my thinking power is the good “inside”
And that changes everything else around me.
