Weight of it All
Weight of it All

Before you question life,
How much can you deal with?
What load are you able to handle
Before you crumple beneath the weight?

I’ve been picking up older books about life
It’s incredible how many deal with suffering.
And this was long before the weight of the internet
Gave untold loads we struggle to tote.

From adjoining continents…
One on the west, the other on the east
The treatment of humanity
Cannot be comprehended
With everyday words and descriptions.
There’s a sense to the words
That’s deeper than sounds or definitions.
Almost, and perhaps, you must live them
Before you consider the suffering they describe.

I’m not sure I can handle the stories.
Perhaps I’m not strong enough.
The suffering that another goes through
Just because they can’t fight against it.

Then, I’m reminded that another suffered for me.’

In the face of a new covenant,
He faced horrible physical blows. Oppressed. Afflicted.
Yet, he was as a lamb led to the slaughter,
And quiet as a sheep about to be sheared (Isaiah 53:7).

He did so, and because of it, I don’t have to.
He faced the challenges, so I have no fear.
He bore the brunt of man’s brutality.
Willingly. His support system was universal.
He could have called on legions of angels (Matthew 26:53)
But he took my sin to the cross.

Yes. I was guilty.
But, you say, what of, and why the load?
All are born into iniquity. Guilty of being at odds with God.
Not that we chose the path we were forced on, no.
It’s the path we choose to walk away from.

Sin, if it is a person, is an ugly taskmaster.

How deep is our depravity?
First. Without God …
It’s only a matter of time,
Till you go deeper than you can imagine.
Then. Without Hope …
You revel in your distance from Grace and Mercy.
Finally. Without God …
You have no hope. (Ephesians 2:12)

But don’t give up your hope in God.

For when we were still without strength,
in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
For scarcely for a righteous man will one die;
Yet perhaps for a good man, someone would even dare to die.
But God demonstrates His own love toward us,
in that while we were still sinners,
Christ died for us.
(Romans 5:6-8 NKJV)

Victory can still be won.
Grace and Mercy are still there.
Healing. Strength. Spirit. Truth.
Yes. God still has a plan,
Though this world gets more wicked every day.
There’s an inkling of good
Waiting on you to use it…
Call out to God…before it’s too late.
