Before you make a move,
Unless it’s life or death
Pause before you act
Think it through before you react.
Lights! Cameras! Action!
This idea occurred to me while reading.
An actor, unless impromptu,
Always prepare their lines for the stage.
Training for the moment.
Before taking center stage.
There’s a lot of prep work
To be successful in the action.
Why do we respond without considering the risk?
Why do we think it’s our right to take the chance?
If you look at other areas of your life
The impulse to act may be the key.
Impulse says turn here. Now!
Intuition may come into play.
You can see the choice you made
As a way to speed differently to an end.
Risk vs Reward sensors may be fouled up
When you don’t think past the moment
Of making wiser choices
Because you paused to think it through.
Yes, there are times we miss the mark
By taking too much time to make the choice
But the more you do it at a younger age
Easier decision-making often comes later in life.
A possible reality comes to mind.
By choosing to do it this way over that
We see ourselves a hero.
While others pause to think through our actions.
And they see a reality you don’t.
Easily, our emotions direct our path.
We even feel guilty if we fail to take action.
But I can control my emotional baggage.
I cannot control the results of the step.
One last thought, and it’s a spiritual doozy.
I never see Jesus cutting someone’s words off
And interrupting their thoughts.
He was God. He knew in advance their thoughts
But he chose to let them speak. Anyway.
Today, I remind myself.
Pause. Consider the path forward.
Decide to make better choices.
Sometimes it’s wiser to wait.
Find a sounding board before you react.
But don’t let it be only a single voice you hear
There are many sides to the results
Of the story you are writing about you.
There’s science in this thought.
