I’m over 70 by a few months
Those latter years of slowing down and enjoying
Whatever happens to come along.
I remember my grandparents and these years of theirs
Then I think, I’m not living like them at all.
If there’s nothing to wake up and do
When do you roll out of bed?
I’m still tuned to the early hours
And getting my routine done
I just don’t understand why I wouldn’t
The quietness of the house
The morning routine is about done
What else would you do
If you didn’t have plans for the day?
I’m changing my mind.
I’m not ready to “retire.”
It’s not biblical.
Caleb, at 75, says, “Give me this mountain!”
If he can keep going, then so can I.
But that doesn’t mean I do it with vim and vigger.
Unless I change my strength building routine
There are some things I can’t accomplish.
So, it’s not my mind – that’s super active.
It’s my body, and it needs to change.
Twirling a stuck knob on the tractor
Left blood-red marks on my hands
It wasn’t a few years ago that my hands were my strongest strength.
Today, I need help opening jars that never gave me adult-aged problems.
I’ve got a plan.
It’s time to make a change.
Life never stops changing.
Ergo, neither do I.
Join me?
Let’s not slip into aged and retired nothingness.
Until my last breath, some 30 years in the future,
I’m committing to change.
I asked AI (ChatGPT) to give me a short poem explaining change:
Absolutely! Here’s a short poem that captures the ever-changing rhythm of life that I’ve modified a bit:
“Shifting Sands”
The river flows, it never stays,
It carves new paths in unseen ways.
The morning sun gives way to night,
And shadows dance in fading light.
The seed, once buried, breaks to bloom,
While autumn leaves make room for gloom.
A heart may laugh, then softly sigh—
Life changes as time goes by.
So hold not tight to where you’ve been,
Each end becomes a place to begin.
For in the swirl of joy and strife,
We learn to grow—such is this life.
