Running through deep mud
Take The Next Step

You reached your goal.
It is celebrated in your way.
But the next step
Feels miles away.

Early morning, and my mind is racing
I’ve been up for an hour, and it just can’t quit
My morning routine accompished
But what’s next? A major step.

Through the years, I’ve learned something about myself. I do not need a group session to mold my future. There’s something about listening to others as they moan and bemoan, even when I’m climbing the mountain alongside them. I learn much better by myself. Thank you very much.

It’s like building my first radio-controlled balsa wood airplane, installing the remote controls I’ll run from the ground—I’m willing to try and fail, even if it’s in public, rather than sitting and building with a room full of others. Success is more about finding my way instead of waiting on the diploma we are all seeking so that the career recognizes our effort.

Ahha… What was your CB Handle? Mine was Pathfinder, circa 1972. (via James Fenimore Cooper)

My first day in a programming language class shocked the teacher. I walked in with the entire book done on my own, without needing to learn by chalkboard or lectures. Plopping the work on his desk, I asked, “So, what’s next?”

I’m a self-learner with a self-taught mind in certain areas of life that others would not dream of facing.

I feel the Apostle Paul was like this: “But I determined this within myself…” (2 Corinthians 2:1)

Yet, there are areas where I revert to the standard learning mode. Today, I may face it by myself since the internet is flooded with DIY videos. But in yesteryear, it was different. My brother and I rebuilt a motor. I followed him through the task, but even today, I’m not sure I’d try it alone.

Yet, I had a platform from which to work. I was a computer operator on an IBM mainframe, and I had several languages available to me to write the code, compile it, and test whether my results were correct.

There are some days we are ready because we stand in the shadows of tools waiting to be used.

I’ve arrived on the scene of today’s life. I’m ready to do something I’m not sure I’ll succeed in, but I’m giving it my all.

I waited until after a new month,
Then waited until the Fool’s Day was done.
This has been on my radar.
I’m finally ready to climb to the next phase
It’s a doozy, boy, I’ll tell you,
And if it works, then I’ll share
But until the step is achieved,
I’m quietly facing it all by myself.

Do yourself a favor and learn all you can;
then remember what you learn and you will prosper.
(Proverbs 19:8 GNB)
