Challenge Your Mindset

A conversation, thinking a thought, hearing a tale…
Each can change how you deal with a person or situation.
Believe, or not; Agree, or not; Repeat, or not
It’s really up to you to consider how your mind is set.

Mind-Set. Mindset. Set Mind.

A recent series of thoughts and conversations
Challenged me to challenge others
If you don’t know the back story
Or what might or might not be true,
Don’t accept what others dish out as accurate.

All I can do is say, “I don’t know the whole story.”
That takes a load off me, unloads my set perspective,
And allows me to consider
There’s more to the story than I know.

Perspective. Insight. Viewpoint. Mindful.

We each understand by what we are,
From where we stand,
And that long heritage of where we come from.
It’s being stuck with the life we were dealt
Instead of seeking out a better outlook.

A saying I heard this week…
“I’m normally immune to idiots, but there must be a new strain out there.”

I changed that underscored word…
Ignorant. Stubborn. Bullies. Negative Personalities.
Why? Eventually, our skin weakens and thins.
That Rhino skin becomes Frog skin – the thickest to the thinnest.
Frogs absorb oxygen through their skin. That’s thin!

Even I can change my perspective.

I said all of this to think about this.

We can change our outlook on life and others.
It often begins with patience.
Whoa… Doesn’t everything?

By your patience possess your souls.
(Luke 21:19 NKJV)

Sticks and stones…and words…all can hurt.
But what I allow into my circle of influence is crucial.
Even though I’m temperate and moderate,
Who I allow in can affect my outlook and change my mindset.

Surely the Bible has something for us to consider…?
But of course!

Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.

(Psalms 1:1-3 NKJV)
