I write more than I share.
Call it a journal if you must,
But writing fills my extra time.
On the one hand, I enjoy documenting
On the other? I don’t want to forget anything.
That’s why I collect trinkets.
They are memory tools.
I don’t want to forget the times they come from.
There’s a lot of memory that’s easy to lose.
Now. When I say write, I mean “type.”
My penmanship degrades after a couple of sentences.
I am even unable to read what I have written.
Ahhhaa… Typing. It’s gotten so much better.
Screens and shortcuts speed me up faster than ever.
Maybe I peaked at 110 WPM, but my typing does a pretty good job of keeping up with my mind.
I pause to consider the prior generation.
Maybe they enjoyed the leisurely process of documenting life.
Not Me. That’s why there are so many drafts in my folders.
There’s much to record what I think of as important.
Even stored for after I’m gone.
Bonhoeffer left what was published into 17 volumes of works.
L’Amour had file cabinets full of unpublished works.
They are still finding Shakespeare’s writings 500 years later.
The Bible mentions writings we know nothing about.
Cuneiform is still being uncovered.
The Dead Sea Scrolls confirmed what had been handed down for generations.
Every writer leaves drafts behind.

Thank you for reading.
Please share with others.
It helps me get my book written!
