Satellite and Space Junk surrounding earth
Satellite and Space Junk surrounding the Earth

I just read a different kind of headline; if it is valid, it tells me more about our world than I expected.

Submarine cables carry 99% of the international data we use. Not satellites.

Undersea cables have been carrying data since 1860, long before we thought about spaceflights and satellites. That’s getting close to 200 years! If you are as old as I am, you remember the fear of Sputnik spying on everything from space. AT&T is responsible for the first trial run showing the possibility of space communication when it launched Telstar1 in 1962.

I was only 7 years old. Since then, we’ve launched and utilized thousands of satellites. Through the decades, I’ve stood gazing at the night sky, and if you are patient enough, you can see a satellite travel across the sky. Or maybe it’s a piece of space junk… Or even the Space Station! Yes… I’ve seen it.

This morning, I opened one of my news apps, and headlines from sources around the planet screamed at me. I’m cautious about who to trust. I checked out the source before I read it. Is it verified as a reputable source? Why does the aggregate service even share it with me if it’s not?

I paused and asked myself, “Can I trust this source?”

Hint: if you don’t verify your source, there’s no telling what is influencing your outlook!

We open encyclopedias from decades ago, and their data can not be changed. In fact, anything in print is not static. It’s done. You have to get regular updates and read them to know what the latest results or facts might be. That is probably the reason why newsprint is dying. We don’t depend on yesterday’s paper about stories from 48 hours ago to be our life’s blood of information.

Imagine owning a 1971 Dodge Dart Swinger, and this “x” number of years later, they republish a Chilton’s Manual with updated information on how to repair a part. Why didn’t they know it back then? What’s changed?

One might ask, “Why is there no “update” book to the Bible or a new release with more information?”

Of course, Hebrews 13:8 tells us, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” If true, do we need more data to prove the fact? If Malachai 3:6 is true, then we don’t need God to update his declaration: “For I am the Lord, I do not change:”

Science is constantly changing. A recent theory (headline!) by NASA data suggests our universe could exist in a black hole. [Source]

Okay. Where did this start? Oh, yeah. Most of our international data comes to us through cables that were technologically developed nearly 200 years ago.

My Bible began thousands of years ago, and I still use it today as fresh as if it were newly sourced as the most recent voice of God. How about you? What’s your input source?

Thank you for reading.
