The past few weeks, the dogs have been especially active at night.
Local posting on social media tells of packs of coyotes killing farm animals.
A mother cougar teaches three young kits to hunt – and farm birds are the prey.
And the summary is?
This is the cost of living close to mother nature.
And mother nature never stops.
The night consists of life happening.
Some nights? It pulls out all of the stops.
I’m learning to sleep through the noise and disruptions.
We keep two fans going to mask noise and circulate cool air.
But when the dogs sleep a dozen feet awake,
It don’t take much for their chorus of voices to interrupt my sleep.
So, I’m up. It’s now 3:30 a.m.
My screen is bright, my fingers fly, and my mind won’t shut down.
But I hear night calling slumber.
Some cold milk, a slice of toast, and maybe I’ll be back in bed by four…
The Shepherds?
They’ll happily hunt the corners if I walk the yard with them.
It will do one of two things.
It will wake me up even more and tire me down, so maybe I’ll sleep again.
It’s dark and cool (39), and the promise of rain is 12 hours away.
If you don’t hear from me again, we ran into mother nature’s disruptors.
