Notice the title…
Boundless… Key…
The key that has no bounds.
Last week, my mind and spirit were focused on life.
People. Projects. Wellness. Struggles.
It seemed all I could do was barely get by.
And “naps” were my friend.
I thought about naps…and could it be?
They are not just for when the body is tired,
But throw in the mind, spirit, heart, and strength.
I think I’ve been overly tired
But I’m getting over it.
Then the famous Bible Scripture from Jesus to Peter…
(Paraphrase) “I’m going to change your name!
You’re now Peter – a piece of the Rock.
And I present you with the Keys to the Kingdom of Heaven.
With the keys come responsibility and authority.
You get to set the boundaries.
What you set down here will be the boundary in heaven.
What you let loose down here will be let loose in heaven.”
I remember my dad’s key ring.
It was always full; he seemed to know the purpose and place for every key he owned.
Think about that. Keys often represent what you protect and what you are responsible for.
Lock it up, or unlock it for access.
(I went into the kitchen this morning to feed my dogs. Gasp!
Someone had left the window unlocked… (You have to know my meaning.)
The dogs guard the porch the window opens onto.
But my bride insists it’s locked every night.)
If you had a key in life that was your foundation key,
What would you choose as your baseline?
Would you want to Win and have Influence over People?
Would a key satisfy you if it allowed you to make your own choice in life?
What would the key look like to good looks? Health? Wealth?
Everyone seems to have the key to improve their life…but what would be the first key you’d collect?
There is a law from the Old Testament it seemed Jesus needed to remind his listeners about.
But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” Jesus said to him, ‘You Shall Love The Lord Your God With All Your Heart, With All Your Soul, And With All Your Mind.‘ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You Shall Love Your Neighbor As Yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
(Matthew 22:34-40 NKJV)
From the Law in the Old Testament, Jesus is reciting two of the most important laws that find their root in love. (Deuteronomy 6:5, Leviticus 19:18) The greatest. The foundation on which all other laws are hinged upon.
Without the Key to Love, it doesn’t matter who you are or what you accomplish; it will never impact your life as someone who begins with the letter of the law beginning with Love.
Read the Gospel of John… He wrote more about Love than any other disciple. (Especially John 15)
- John 3:16-19 – (Paraphrase) God so loved the world… He gave…
- John 15:10 – This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
- John 15:13 – Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.
- John 15:19 – (Paraphrase) The world hates you because you are not of this world and the world loves it’s own.
- John 21 – Jesus tests Peter’s love… Agape and Philidelphia. (Seek the original language.)
My thought today revolves around the idea of returning to the roots. What’s important to Jesus should be important to us. If I’m going to be a follower of Jesus with results of souls added to the Kingdom, then I need to begin again with Love as my focus.
