Morning After Yesterday
Morning after Yesterday

After a long night of sleeplessness,
When the dogs barked at something in the dark,
The wind and rain abated, of no note here at home,
And Wednesday shows up bright, chilled, and fair.

The previous night?

The winds may howl, the rain may pour,
But the light will shine like never before.
The darkest storm will pass away,
And hope will rise with a brand-new day.

The sleepless night?

The clock ticks on, the stars shine bright,
Rest won’t come. I’ve lost the fight.
Toss and turn, thoughts drift and roam,
Waiting for sleep to bring me home.

Finally, at 5:30 a.m., I drift back to sleep
And three hours later, I awake
Renewed. Ready to take on my day.
