Through late night and early morning hours,
My mind filters, sorts, and considers much.
Dreams, it is said, reorders our memories,
But the result of these thoughts remains senseless.
Consider your day. The stories you read and hear.
The devastation and the mundane.
The social posts are often a waste of time.
The news seems to be sensationalized.
At some point, you must turn it off.
Back away. Turn away. Refresh yourself.
Walk with the dogs, drive your tractor,
Even work that jigsaw puzzle you may never finish.
The bottom line this morning is simple.
I have faith that there is a brand new day coming.
Not in this lifetime but the one to come.
Our combined view says this life is winding up.
When I was a child, I could never understand the future.
Now that I’m here?
I wonder how we got here so fast?
Palisades comes to mind.
Okay, today, gone tomorrow.
It’s within me to question.
I was taught in school long ago.
Who. What. When. Where. How. Why???
But faith is strong, and no answers will work.
There is a better place that’s not bound by time.
No past. No future. Just being present in the moment.
I hear my grandmother’s singing voice more often:
This world is not my home. I’m just a-passing through,
My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue;
The angels beckon me from heaven’s open door,
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore. [Source]
This doesn’t mean I don’t care. Oh, but I do.
The loss of life and property, safety and security,
The waste of resources fighting against all odds.
But my faith isn’t based here. It’s hoping for there.
Therefore
we also,
since we are surrounded
by so great a cloud of witnesses,
let us lay aside every weight,
and the sin which so easily ensnares us,
and let us run with endurance
the race that is set before us,
looking unto Jesus,
the author and finisher of our faith,
who for the joy that was set before Him
endured the cross,
despising the shame,
and has sat down
at the right hand of the throne of God.
(Hebrews 12:1-2 NKJV)
