As I turned the lights out “last night/this morning.“
12:02 a.m. my trusty alarm clock said,
This thought burbled through the moment
“So it begins…”
Another year, Day 1, or so says the Julian.
Baseline, First Step, Starting Fresh,
Of 365 opportunities to get it right.
Or how about a postive observation?
I’m going to get it right!
A magical year? Perhaps.
We’ll be married over 50 years
And our ages will roll into the 70s.
There will be highs and lows,
But this is just a stopping point of thought,
After all, there’s a lot of opportunites to get it right.
My thought was this: One year in the future.
12:02 a.m. at the start of 2026,
Will I have made any progress?
That’s often the thought,
And armed with resoltutions,
We storm into the New Year.
But resolutions often leave us dissastisfied.
They fail more often than not.
What I want is a better life for all.
I want this year to mean something.
“If it is to be, it must begin with me…“
That means I must try smarter,
And that sometimes means “try harder.”
Combined effort produces results.
Trim the distractions.
Focus on the reality.
Dream for the future.
And so it begins…
