Remove the negative from C-A-N
The Power of Rejecting the Negative

(A favorite line from “Singing in the Rain.”

Can’t could do nothing
Or so the double negative phrase speaks
Remove the offsetting negative
Can do anything becomes the mantra.

I’ve watched many shrug their shoulders.
Can’t do it. Can’t be done. It’ll never happen.
Even in a moment of panic – Freeze!
That’s not the way I want life to be lived.

Maybe that’s why I’m different.
Give me a challenge, or a simple negative thought
Something in me wants to turn it into a positive.

You know, find a way to do it,
Or at least give it a try.
Don’t just say no. Cross the arms
And look stubborn with a frown.

Some say “I can’t.”
They’re right.
Just because that’s you,
It doesn’t mean it’s me.

Maybe that’s my strong suit.
My superpower.
I may not get it done.
Life is funny like that.
But it won’t be for the lack of trying.

I grew up with the mantra:
“I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.”
Of course, from my favorite epistle.
Philippians 4:13
Paul isn’t telling me I can leap tall buildings in a single bound,
But he tells me I have a power Christless people don’t have.
It may not be about whether I can, or not,
But my attitude says, “He can.”

Listen… Sometimes I will say, “It can’t be done.”
Not because that’s what I believe.
It’s to see if there’s someone else like me.
“Let me give it a try!”
