The last day of Fall. Today. 12/20/24…
The Winter Solstice is tomorrow.
Important? Sure. Winter begins!
Then, it’s only 11 days until 2025.
As is typical, I spend time considering where I am, what I’ve accomplished, goals I’ve missed, and whether there is a better way forward. Since my birthday is less than three weeks away, this puts me into the mindset of closing out and starting anew.
Questions I ask:
- What goals did I aim for, and why did I find success or a lack of forward motion?
- The key is to be honest. Document your pros and cons, and determine the next step.
- What’s my status on a personal level?
- This relates to health, relationships, financial condition, mental clarity, and overall satisfaction.
- What personal improvements did I make, are they working, and what do I need to do next?
- Have I been influential to others, and who influences me the most?
These are not cast in stone, and I don’t have a form I follow every year, but they represent my annual review. I’m often looking at these Q&As every week.
Why now and not just at year-end?
I believe in a daily renewal.
- Jesus taught us to pray and ask for our “daily bread.” (Matthew 6:11, Luke 11:3).
- Jesus taught daily in the temple. (Luke 22:53)
- The church was started in the book of The Acts of the Apostles, and after they first experienced the power of the Holy Spirit, they continued “daily in one accord in the temple, breaking bread from house to house, and partook of their food with gladness and simplicity of heart…” (Acts2:46)
- Paul described his walk with Jesus as a daily death of self. (1 Corinthians 15:11)
- Paul describes our walk with God as one not conformed to the world but transformed by the renewing of our minds. (Romans 12:1-2)
- Transformation and renewal happen daily!
So, my question is: Why wait till then? Do it now!
