Rain Blurred Road

Have you ever made a forecast or set a goal, and due to “life,” you missed the mark by a mile?

If you’re honest, the answer is an obvious “yes.”

“It’ll take two hours to get there.” Of course, in regular times. When the traffic doesn’t support you or the weather takes a turn for the worst, all your schedules are tossed out the window, and you make the best of a new normal.

Looking over my shoulder at my plans at the beginning of this year, some finished nicely. Many were rearranged as life gave me new lessons. Some are no longer necessary or possible. And a few are in crunch mode to wrap up as the year rapidly winds down.

What are the hindrances of plan completion?

  • Changes due to health, wealth, timing, or life itself.
  • Desires and wishes no longer match what you thought you would accomplish.
  • Cost factor – we’ve experienced inflation!
  • Brain Fog, hurt feelings, someone says, “No Way!” and we believe them.
  • Easy distractions make you lose focus.

With good intentions, we face the new year.
Our personality says, “Forward, Ho!”
But the year changes before we can adapt.
Bad news piles up, and we become disillusioned.

What others know that you don’t,
Changes their perception of how well you do.
Your support is solid with a few,
But the world is not even watching.
They don’t care.
So, why do you?

Through the night, a scripture story crept in. Hezekiah – not his whole life, but one particular portion that may have been in his aged years.

In those days Hezekiah was sick and near death.
And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, went to him and said to him,
“Thus says the LORD: ‘Set your house in order, for you shall die, and not live.’ ”
Then he [Hezekiah] turned his face toward the wall,
and prayed to the LORD, saying,
Remember now, O LORD, I pray, how I have walked before You in truth and with a loyal heart,
and have done what was good in Your sight
.”
And Hezekiah wept bitterly.
And it happened, before Isaiah had gone out into the middle court, that the word of the LORD came to him, saying, “Return and tell Hezekiah the leader of My people,
‘Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father:
“I have heard your prayer,
I have seen your tears;
surely I will heal you.
On the third day you shall go up to the house of the LORD.
And I will add to your days fifteen years.
I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria;
and I will defend this city for My own sake,
and for the sake of My servant David.” ‘ “
(2 Kings 20:1-6 NKJV)

Words are not our only defense mechanism. David named the power of a broken and contrite heart [Psalms 51:17]. Research it. You’ll find that getting the correct answer from God is when you realize how broken life is and put your entire dependence upon Him.

Dismal outcomes can turn around.
Many distractions can be contained.
But it will take you getting off your high horse.
Approach the Creator with a contrite spirit.
There’s gold in this thought!
