It’s not what I do when my day starts that is so important for you to understand. We are each unique, and our lives have many facets. As I shared yesterday, we wear many hats – mine keeps switching all day long.
What you do and when you decide to do it is within your purview, but the fact that it gets done is very important.
My first hour…
Coffee, breakfast, reviewing the world…and spending time in devotion.
That includes writing—not journaling. I write for myself,
but I share it with anyone interested in reading.
I do all of this in the quietest zone possible—noiseless. I try to be as quiet as possible when brewing my coffee and removing the cup from the cabinet. I keep it as dark as possible. I like my morning to be as gentle as possible.
Sometimes, this first hour stretches into two or three!
This is also when I order my day. All those lists I used to make? I can’t even find them. However, I know what needs to be done and try to structure my day to get the most out of it. I have meetings, calls, study, Internet tasks, and business activities.
I try to keep my structured day flexible.
How flexible? Well, my morning Bible reading paused at the beginning of Luke’s Gospel. He wrote both the gospel and the Book of Acts. Because I’m flexible, I must spend extra time considering his introduction narrative. (The emphasis is mine and what my mind extruded from his opening.)
Inasmuch as many have taken in hand to set in order a narrative of those things which have been fulfilled among us, just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word delivered them to us, it seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write to you an orderly account, most excellent Theophilus, that you may know the certainty of those things in which you were instructed.
(Luke 1:1-4 NKJV)
My first hour has stretched to two hours. In fact, these words will stay with me all day. I’ll think about them, consider them from another point of view, and who knows where they’ll appear next!
That’s what I love about my First Hour.
Thank you for reading.
Please share with others.
It helps me get my book written!
