Home?

A house is not a home,
Nor can you feel at home on vacation.
Your home is where you decide to settle
Put down some roots and hang out for a while.

In over 50 years of marriage, we’ve had homes in Texas, Alaska, and Washington. Positives and negatives exist everywhere and all the time. How you deal with them is the telling tale. It says a lot about who you are.

Right where you are today and now, can you make it your home?

I always turn to the old Gospel song, “This world is not my home… I’m just a passing through.” Another writer says, “Stop the world and let me off! I’m tired of going round and round!”

When the last words are spoken in your hearing, and you are asked where you want to be buried, many want to “go home.” Where is that? Graveyards have become the research mecca, but they can only tell a short story. Your story is identified by those around to speak or write, but after a generation or two, your memory, like your bones, fades into history.

We stood at the grave of some dear friends last Sunday.
Home? Perhaps. Cherished? Remembered? Definitely.

Today? I’m home. It’s home as long as the Good Lord helps me! The dogs are barking at something in the dark, the skies were brilliantly dark last night, and the temperature is hovering 11 degrees over freezing. Keep the heat and humidity at bay, and I can call many places home – as long as I can afford it!

Thank you for reading.

It helps me get my book written!
