Mosie Lister wrote a song before I was born… Feeling Mighty Fine. It’s a fine quartet song, but when I think about it, the most I hear is my voice. I sing out of tune, off key, and certainly not in the rhythm as it was meant to be enjoyed.
But this morning, and for the most part, everything is fine.
But the truth is that at any moment, there are things we don’t feel fine about and worry over—little things, big things, insignificant things, moments.
That feeling of well-being can be smacked to the side by a real-to-life dream with conversations, numbers, and problems. These times of not feeling like all is fine are often found in the middle of darkness.
On the other side of darkness, you find light.
You must speak to the negative moment…
I often talk myself out of a negative moment. Over the years, I’ve gotten pretty good at it. I compartmentalize the stress. If something bothers me enough, I put it on my schedule to handle. I recently learned that I should have a business meeting with God.
There’s nothing like putting everything before God and knowing how to approach life. After all, isn’t He part of your life? Doesn’t He want the best for you?
I don’t want to take any scripture out of context and misappropriate it for something it was never meant to be used for. I believe the Bible is full of principles and promises. From another’s example, I can have hope.
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, says the LORD, and I will bring you back …
(Jeremiah 29:11-14 NKJV)
If the Lord knows, and He has thoughts for a nation, how much more will He help me in my worry? Stress? Fear? And moments of not feeling as fine as I have every right to feel?
I love this translation of a favorite New Testament verse.
Set your way of life without money-loving,
being satisfied with present things; for He has said, “Not at all will I leave you, not at all will I forsake you,” never! (Deuteronomy 31:6)
So that we may boldly say,
“The Lord is my helper, and I will not be afraid. What shall man do to me?”
(Hebrews 13:5-6 LITV)
Alongside those moments of captured fine,
We realize the stress and worry of normal life.
But believing and trusting, I march on.
Though struggles bring me down, He will lift me up.
