What's your routine?

What you do, day by day, to grow your life or invest wisely tells a lot about how you intend your future to be. I say this from the standpoint that my regular daily routine did not get set until much later in life. Life was busy, crazy, and changing its stance from day to day. I know. But somewhere along the way, I started my routine that is pretty much set in stone. I do not feel comfortable when life happens now, and I leave that routine behind.

Call it age, a life that’s set in stone, or even the Old Geezer factor. Call it anything you want, but I believe Jesus had a routine. He taught from His foundation. If it’s good enough for Him, it’s good enough for me.

In his famous “Sermon on the Mount” (Matthew 5-7), he makes the case to focus on today and not worry about tomorrow. (Matthew 6:25-34) “Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

In other words, handle today while it is still today.

How do we live daily?

Seven instructions in the New Testament describe what could easily be our daily “routine.” They are not all the “words of Jesus,” but if you compare what they say to how Jesus lived or even Israel at certain points of life, then they make sense for living a solid daily life.

Let me share them in scripture format.

  1. 1 Corinthians 15:31 NKJV  I affirm, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.
  2. Luke 9:23 NKJV  Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.
  3. Matthew 6:11 NKJV  Give us this day our daily bread.
  4. Acts 17:11 NKJV  These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.
  5. Acts 2:46 NKJV  So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart,
  6. Acts 5:42 NKJV  And daily in the temple, and in every house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.
  7. Hebrews 3:13 NKJV  but exhort one another daily, while it is called “TODAY,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

I hope you see a trend.

There’s something special about a daily approach to the things that move God. First? It’s not about “me.” To stay fresh and strong in our lives, we should focus on living for Christ and less on living for ourselves. Caring for others and being with them requires self-sacrifice – it often costs you something. Never stop growing in His Word because you’ll be able to help others through what you grow in.

All of this happens Daily.

You don’t need a checklist to mark with a green positive “image “Green Arrow” saying, “Done!” Rather, you will be, do, and think, “What’s next?”

Every Christian must Live Daily for Christ. If His Spirit lives within us and we think and do what He wants us to do, our observation of the world around is will change. We will see accomplishments where there’s little to be happy about now. We will reach people we never thought we could touch with His Love. Our gracious replies will share His Grace. Will follow His footsteps – turn the other cheek, draw in the sand instead of condemning, go where and when needed, teach, love, and be who we are supposed to be. Our prayers will produce results right alongside the testimonies that we share.

This happens daily.

You will need to change your routine daily,
little by little, until it happens and you don’t even think about it.
In the future, you will grow uncomfortable
If you find yourself not living with your routine.

Today, while you read or think about this, why don’t you consider everyone who passes through your purview? They are someone you can be witness to that I cannot. Make a difference. Be the difference. Watch life change.
