I woke up in a strange hotel, and given the circumstances, I was happy to be alone. A dark room, as cold as it’ll get, and no one to talk things over with.

I relate to many a road warrior, shift worker, or someone trying to make their way home.

At a next-door coffee shop, I pause to consider how out-of-sync life feels.

I’ve never been a stray. There’s always been a homeport and a solid anchor.

Home is… where the heart is? Perhaps. But that means you want life to be where your heart resides, but you’re torn between obligation and necessity.

Twixt is a word that comes to mind.

Will someday be today? Will tomorrow ever arise? Can life be so unfair?

My heart goes to the Apostle John. He’s lived longer than any apostle. Finally, exiled to an island, Patmos, he has the strangest vision/dream, which paints a story of the future that he cannot possibly understand. Maybe the imagery is unclear, but the meaning isn’t.

This world is winding up!

People think life isn’t fair, but their life is about to end dramatically.

Someone wishes to finish their dreams, but there’s nothing about the future that makes anyone want to live when it happens.

How did Jesus put it? Wars. Rumors of even more wars. Brother against brother.

“For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.” (Matthew 24:7, NKJV)

If the near future isn’t described here, how much worse will it get?

This morning, I say, open your eyes, hear the groaning sounds of a dying world, and make the best of where you are and what you must do to be ready.

There’s a better life coming.
