The Words we find in a Dictionary

Some words are to be read for joy
Others for information and knowledge,
Still, others must be studied to better oneself
Put them all together, and you have words worthy of your focus.

I read with speed, and skimming is what I often compare it to,
But when something grabs my attention…
I slow way down, back up, read again,
Did I get what the author intended?

Words are seeds. They bloom. They grow,
They may lift you or lay you low.
In silent whispers or thunderous cries,
Embedded in every word is a world,
And a cosmos in every sentence.

“You can never get a cup of tea large enough
or a book long enough to suit me.” ~
C.S. Lewis (British writer and lay theologian)

There are 1189 chapters in my bible…over 31,000 verses.
Words? It depends on which translation you enjoy.
But each word has a history. Etymology.
What it meant, then, can only enhance modern translation.
Our language changes. Words out of vogue.
New words that never were and old words have new meanings.

The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.

Don’t change the meaning of God’s word just because you don’t like it.
Change His Word, and ignorantly, you will follow Him wrongly.

I’m reading my tractor manual. It’s cryptic.
But warnings are all through the pages.
Do this at your peril. Pay the consequences of not understanding.
You could even void your warranty.

The words of the LORD are pure words,
Like silver tried in a furnace of earth,
Purified seven times.
You shall keep them, O LORD,
You shall preserve them from this generation forever.
(Psalms 12:6-7 NKJV)
