You’ve heard the phrase and probably shared it before, “And the Hits just keep on coming!“
It’s probably connected to negative times. The news maims your perspective and delivers blows one after the other.
Sounds like ol’ Job in the Bible. Right?
Before one runner can deliver the negative news, another runner arrives. Eventually, he thinks, I can’t believe it! But then? His health goes to pot. It seems everyone forsakes him.
I know of few with issues as big as Job’s, but I know many who turn their molehills into mountains.
Not just this once, but every time! They feel like they get more than they can handle and launch a mountain-building exercise. All around them are mountains. Before long, they never see the light of day.
I thought about elephants being scared of mice or the person burning their house and sharing the good news, “At least I got that Spider!”
Even Jesus prayed, “If it be thy will…let this cup pass from me.” Most of us would have exited the country more quickly than you could spell G-E-T!
These past two weeks, at least in my arena, have been particularly overwhelmed with modem issues at church. I won’t relive the drama, but something is happening that limits our outreach. Today, the support person reviewed the account and said, “It looks like you’ve had three modems sent. You may have bigger problems than a little box!”
Great! While wringing my hands and thinking of the hours I’ve already spent and asking, “How much more time will I have to work to get back to home base?”
I’ve learned that many times,
the main way to win is to fight the small stuff.
Yes, I know. It’s all small stuff.
When you feel alone, you are at your weakest.
The problems mount faster than you can swat them down the road.
Your mind bogs down in all yesterday’s problems,
There’s no way you can face tomorrow…Today’s way too big!
David was given a commission to take supplies to his brothers on the fighting line long before he was recognized. When he gets there, he hears a voice proclaiming victory over Israel. “Who is this that would defy the armies of Israel?” Goliath. (1 Samuel 17:26)
And David said to Saul,
“Let no man’s heart fail because of him.
Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.”
(1 Samuel 17:32 ESV)
A lad, younger than the warriors but ready with the knowledge that his life has a purpose. This is just a little problem. There are bigger challenges in the future. Let me at ’em!
David sets the stage for Saul: I’ve killed a Lion and a bear. Who is this but the next bigger challenge?
Here’s a key. You often win the bigger battles by proving you can will the little fights.
I have fought service technicians, fulfillment centers, shipping issues, and a lack of communication to get a $100.00 modem up and running. I’ve not pulled out any hair, but I am getting fed up with what the enemy attempts to do.
And I’m Not Gonna Take It! Mountain? Begone. How? It’s just a molehill disguised as a problem bigger than reality. Poof! Be Gone!
