Evening sky, sun on horizon, trees settling in for night
Weary, Looking For Rest

Weary and tired, sings John Denver…
Have you heard it?

Well, I’m weary and tired, I’ve done my day’s riding
Nighttime is rolling my way
The sky’s all on fire and the light’s slowly fading
Peaceful and still ends the day
[Listen]

Makes me want to sit around an evening camp fire…
Hard day done. Time to relax. My way.

Jesus says it better…

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden,
and I will give you rest.
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me,
for I am gentle and lowly in heart,

and you will find rest for your souls.
For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30 NKJV

Do you remember the prayers of childhood?
End of day, kneeling by the bed, recite the mantra…

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my Soul to keep.
If I should die before I ‘wake,
I pray the Lord my Soul to take.

There are many other iterations of similar childhood prayers.
But I got comfort… All is right with God. At the end of the day.
All I need to entrust Him with my care. So, I trust.

Today, and through the past little while,
I’ve felt more weary than I should have a right to feel.
Rest? Yes. It’s coming. But until then? Keep shouldering the load.
Some day. A final rest.
