What we see we recognize,
Hair, Eyes, Face, you know,
The recognizable features,
The sounds of our voices.
Underlying everything seen
Are the things we don’t experience
The mind and thoughts,
Emotions, and turmoil.
The underlying of everything
That keeps us upright and mobile.
Beneath every building, person,
Or even a movement that gains mmomentum.
There’s an unseen structure.
We know it’s there, but seldom think it through.
Early this morning, for some odd reason, this thought came to mind about my unseen structure.
I know my bones are there, and they shoulder a lot of my mobility,
but were they to become unusable (broken, brittle, diseased, tired, etc.)
then my point of living might come into question.
From Adam, God took a bone and made Eve. Bone of my bone, says he. (Genesis 2:23)
Before he dies, Joseph tells his people, “Carry up my bones from here…” Moses did. (Genesis 50:25, Exodus 13:19)
Job describes how his bones shook, pierced him in the night, and burned with fever. (Job 4:14, 30:17,30)
Prophetically, David writes of Jesus on the cross, “All my bones are out of joint.” (Psalms 22:14) In fact, David references his internal structure (bones) often.
Finally, last scriptural reference, Jesus spoke to his disciples after the resurrection:
Now as they said these things, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, “Peace to you.” But they were terrified and frightened, and supposed they had seen a spirit. And He said to them, “Why are you troubled? And why do doubts arise in your hearts? Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have.” When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet.
Luke 24:36-40 NKJV
I paused to consider my structure.
It’s my culture, family, birth order and place,
From Texas to Alaska and now Washington,
Every moment of my life was awarded by my structure.
I’m a man of God, husband of my love, father to my childern,
Son to my parents. Sibling to my brothers.
Inquisitive, fascinated by the flow of words,
Student of IT and Bible… Hmmm. Renaisance, said someone.
But my structure grows.
On my exisiting frame are more thoughts than you can ever understand.
Constantly, I’m growing. Moving.
Becoming. Adapting. Flexible.
But it all started with awareness of who I am.
A friend, shepherd, leader, student, teacher.
From a child, to an adult, and now a senior.
I’m always becoming, but you find my start way yonder. Back there.
Moses asked of God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and that I should bring the childern of Israel of of Egypt?” In fact, he asks of God, “When they ask, who do I tell them you are?” God says, “I AM WHO I AM.” (Exodus 3:10-14)
Moses spent 40 years in Pharoahs house, 40 years on the backside of a desert as a shepherd, and finally leading his people through the wilderness to the promised land. Could someone else have had all the qualities to do this? Possibly. But here’s the kicker. Just like Moses, I’m made in the image of my creator, and my heritage speaks loudly of my frame.
Just as yours do of you.
