The Content of My Words

Through the years I’ve learned,
And I’ve known this for decades,
I’m nothing without my words.
What I read, speak, think and write…
Words.
They define me.
Read them, listen, or think with me as I think,
You will, hopefully, find value.
That’s what I’m after.

Reading digitially, I find a good words and phrases.
I highlight them, tab the page so I can find agan,
And think about the quality of the thought
I had just found. What content becomes mine?

AT THE FULCRUM of his excruciating pain,
Jesus cried out, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

I hear some faint words coming from a song
Unknown to me is the title, or author,
But something about the words cry out to me.
Read me! You’ll find what you need!

The union of your spirits here has caused Him to remain
for whenever two or more of you are gathered in His name
There is love
There is love

~Noel Paul Stookey (Peter, Paul and Mary)

Okay. That was the song of our wedding 50 years ago.
Dad sang, my sister played, and Brenda and I soaked it up.
I hope they know how much their actions meant to me. Us.
Thankful. The content of these words mean much.

Because God was all that Daniel had.
Again and again he threw himself upon God with such complete faith and utter dependence that God came through for him. Powerfully. Personally. Dramatically. Repeatedly.

Peoms, sonnets, ancient and new, how-to’s, answered why’s,
And all the other things I read.
The content of the words leave me in wonderment.
They connect my mind and my heart.

I will persist until I succeed.

Some words stand on their own
Out of the context of their source,
Just like the phrase above,
To get the whole thought,
You must read more than a sentence.
About, Bulls for the fight,
A sheep not prodded,
Failure that brings ultimate success
Till the message sinks in and becomes my truth.

When I pause to listen to some
Who teach, preach, exhort or examine,
I’m looking for a phrase extracted from the thought
That will stay with me, grow in my mind,
Until I reject it, or make it my own.

Some days were better than others. Some not.
All taught me the same thing—hatred and anger does not kill hatred and anger.

As a student of the verse
I link the Old to the New,
And within those words,
I find a thread
That is a current of truth
From when it was first said,
Until now, when I accept the truth.

Deuteronomy 18:18 NKJV  I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him.
John 1:43-45 NKJV  The following day Jesus wanted to go to Galilee, and He found Philip and said to him, “Follow Me.”  44  Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.  45  Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
Acts 3:22-23 NKJV  For Moses truly said to the fathers, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear in all things, whatever he says to you.  23  and it shall be that every soul who will not hear that prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.’

Thank you for reading.
