Tinder used to start a fire
Tinder to start a fire

It would be easy to think to do what’s right,
But oh so easy to end up doing what’s wrong.

In the flash of a moment, a fire is lit
In others, or yourself, there’s just seconds to react.

Can you undo what you’ve started?
Tinder is used to create a blaze.
Think quickly, take correct action,
Don’t hesitate.

Do what needs to be done.
Hope and pray for the best.
From that reaction to positive action,
You’ve done all you can do.
Now? Just let it perc, bake, and time will tell.

Early this morning I glanced at the fireplace we installed a few months ago. Sitting on the hearth is a bag of fatwood. At least that’s what it’s called. Essentially it’s the core of a log full, dried to perfection, and produces burnable material that helps a fire find its footing.

Tinder for the fire.

It’s purpose is to burn hot so that the larger pieces catch fire. If you didn’t know it, a large piece is not the place you start when you want fire. They seem to be impervious to your attempts. Getting a fire started requires starting from the small to the larger. A little match does little good. You need to start somewhere comparable in size to what you have as a starter.

Oh, but finally, when lit, save the tinder for another day.

For some reason I was thinking how we are tinder to produce another’s negative reaction. As simple as is the tinder, the opposite is created from it’s use. We push buttons because we’ve learned what it takes to set the fire burning.

Perhaps, and this is a big responsibility. Be responsible for the tinder you use, and when you do, know there will always be a reaction that is not what you want.
