Title "After the Pause" with handstitched letters that say Selah
After The Pause

When you’ve thought it through…
When everything has been analyzed…
What are you going to do,
After the pause is ended?

Moving off center, gaining momentum,
Baby steps to long strides,
Get yourself moving.
That’s why you paused.

Peter said, “I go fishing.” He went.
Jesus said, “I must go through Samaria.” They went.
Paul said, “I’m appealing to Rome.” He traveled.
Me: Married my bride, have a family, started and finished a career.
I planned a journey, started a church, and started another again.
One day? Retire. It’s time? Perhaps.
But not before I pause and think it through.

The Bible alludes to the pause, though the word is not in the translation.

  • Mark 6:31: Jesus says, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”
  • Matthew 11:28-30: Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
  • Luke 5:16: Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed
  • Psalms: The word “selah” appears 71 times in the Psalms, and some scholars believe it was used as a reminder to pause, contemplate, or praise.

After you pause, fire up your engines…
Move to the tracks…
It’s now time to be living your purpose…
After the pause
