Words We Never Say

I don’t remember most of the lessons,
But I’m sure they were there.
Shhh… We don’t use that word.
Why? It’s not polite. It’s wrong. It’s vulgar.

Those lessons stuck.

If they aren’t used in our family,
Then why read a book with them,
Why hang with those who use them often?
As in, when you’re with the boys, don’t worry about it.

The lessons? They are still stuck.

No matter where this world is going,
It’ll get there without me joining in,
Especially if those wrong words are part of the economy.
Yep! Those Lessons Stuck!

Words which do not give the light of Christ
Increase the darkness. ~Mother Teresa

I remember a story from my bride.
Bike Riding in Anchorage with the kids.
My son was a voracious reader…hmmm.
Sounds like his parents.
He read everything. So he read the graffiti…
Shh… We don’t say those words.
Next time, “Mom, there’s the words we don’t say!”

Prayer is not asking.
It is a longing of the soul.
It is daily admission of one’s weakness.
It is better in prayer to have a heart without words
Than words without a heart. ~Mahatma Gandhi

I’m a student of words. Not brag. Just fact.
Grammarly tells me I’m using more unique words
Than 94% of other writers they track.
Hmmm… I’m always looking in the dictionary.

But through my writings, I’m sure you’ll find
No words from lessons we were taught.
They are still not used. By us. Or in our house!
They are still banned from my world.

I’ve learned the lessons well.
I’m glad they stuck.

When it comes to prayer, the words often fail.
Martin Luther says, “The fewer the words, the better the prayer.”
I pray with words, but they will never be
The words we never say.

It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing.
The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.
(John 6:63 NKJV)
