If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.
A Scottish proverb from 1628 that tells the idea
If wishing could make anything happen,
Then, the most destitute could have anything they wanted.
Just because I wish I knew
That doesn’t mean I automatically know anything
If wishing could make me know everything
There’d be no need for books and libraries.
Or inquiring mind… I’d know.
If it is to be, it is up to me (IIITBIIUTM)
Means if it’s going to come true
Then, I will be the one who will pursue
So that the outcome will meet my dream.
A word came to my mind around 4 a.m. Freshly awake, and I’m not sure why I thought this, but if I’m going to be successful then I need to take control of my life and push it into condition that that success cannot help but follow the work I apply to my life.
Wait a moment. Am I too old for this kind of thinking? Nope!
Until my last breath, I plan on being busy learning, growing, doing, and enjoying. That means I must be in control.
The Apostle Paul shared a thought and from this the one word kept me awake this morning instead of allowing me to drift to slumber land. Can you guess which word?
For though we walk in the flesh,
we do not war according to the flesh.
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal
but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,
casting down arguments and every high thing
that exalts itself against the knowledge of God,
bringing every thought into captivity
to the obedience of Christ,
and being ready to punish all disobedience
when your obedience is fulfilled.
(2 Corinthians 10:3-6 NKJV)
I cheated. It’s highlighted. Captivity. Take Captive. He’s not dealing with anything but an errant thought or a challenging position that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. Take that thought captive.
Why? Most of our actions come from our thoughts. Our foundations of belief and knowledge come from what we’ve learned and given space in our minds. If there is anything that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, capture it! Control it! Don’t let it have space in your conversation.
Same Idea, Different Place
“Can’t never could do nothing.” Break down the negatives, and this little statement says you can do anything you put your mind to accomplish. Drop the negative, become positive, and accomplish your goal.
Maybe we’ve lived past our “Age of Discovery.” The internet has changed much of our processes, and AI will cause us to adapt faster to the baseline of how we learn anything. It was only 600 years ago that the image of the North American continent was becoming known by Europe and Asia. Though people lived here, the commerce of the other side of the world did not honestly know much about my home.
Satelites, drones, and un-maned exploring machines do the dirty work. From the depths of the sea to the furtherest reaches of space, we keep expanding our horizons and learning more than we would have thought possible even 100 years ago.
Imagine someone saying something negative about growing in knowledge and accepting their perspective. I’m not so quick to acquiesce…
If naysayers have their way, nothing new will ever be discovered!
We would never change. Life would remain the same.
Oh, my… Really?
Capture the negative and banish it from our minds. We keep reaching for the impossible, and it becomes possible. Voyager 1 is over 15 billion miles from Earth after its launch in 1977. [Interesting real-time counters] Recently it quit transmitting data and NASA is working on restoring communication. Imagine this process! It takes nearly a full day for a single computer command to be transmitted between Earth and Voyager 1…
This morning, if I’m going to accomplish anything, I must bring my mind into captivity and train it to operate in the arena of my interest.
