I happened to an advertisement that encouraged continuing growth. Not in wealth or position but in learning to know God’s Word better. One verse, thought, or principal at a time. There’s much to learn in this world, and on some fronts, I grow weary of the constant change, but God’s Word always reveals there’s a depth I have not yet plumbed.
It was Peter, not Paul, who famously stated this thought.
As babes, we are to desire the sincere milk of the word so we will grow. (1 Peter 2:2) Many think there will come a time when we no longer need to study the Word. I would argue the point as the world grows, so should our study of the Word. It has a freshness that helps us understand the present times.
In another letter, he states:
You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand,
beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness,
being led away with the error of the wicked;
but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.
(2 Peter 3:17-18 NKJV)
Notice something? He says we could fall from our steadfastness (stability). To combat that failure, grow in grace and knowledge.
How do we grow? Keep studying and add to our knowledge every day!
There are 1169 chapters in the Bible. There are 23,145 verses in the Old Testament and 7,957 verses in the New Testament. This gives a total of 31,102 verses.
Now, lest you think that there are 31,102 quizzes, why not consider learning by themes: Love, Grace, Truth, Peace, Joy, etc. Learn by subjects: Fruit of the Spirit, Gifts of the Spirit, Maturity, Prayers, etc. Learn by characters. My focus is so heavily on the Apostle Paul I sometimes forget all others! Some scripture is prophecy, while other is history. Some are full of poetry and prose, while others number people.
Regardless. Start a plan, and follow the plan.
Mix it up! Even days, odd days. Morning vs evening. This month for a subject, and then add something different next month.
Why do I think this? God revealed something to me back in 1971. I was 16… [Read Here]
The last thing I would suggest? Record what you learned. Journal, diary, or write it down in letters to someone. I’ve come to this conclusion. I blog for this purpose. Having stated this, I’m streamlining my purpose so I can share in a book in 2024…
Why? I want to continually grow in the things of God and become less interested in the things of life that are always changing.
