There’s something to be said about those who step out, up, and into the event. Potluck. Christmas. Church. Family. Whew! Why a great day we had!
Several someone’s planned, coordinated, advertised, decorated, and organized. They shopped for the decorations and made the room pristine! Thank you. You went out of your way to help all of us enjoy the day. We appreciate you!
With just one practice, our kids sang their hearts out. Thank you for those who prepared for this special event. Can you believe they sang with just one practice! Blessed!
Games? I did not know what to expect, but one of the best things you did was organize crowd friendly showpiece activities that got everyone involved. Right? No, left…uh… Thanks!
When the crowd started showing up, several someone’s stepped into the gap of action and helped with trash collecting, setup, clean-up, breakdown, reorganize, and get the place ready for the future. Oh-my… You gave me space to enjoy getting to know a visitor and not worrying about getting the space ready. I appreciate you!
My thanks to the kids for letting me be me with you. One of the things I note is that there are not enough natural grandkids in my life so you parents give me privilege to show love.
This season is starting off busy, and not near enough time in the day to complete all our tasks, but kicking it off with my church family is the best way to say hello, Christmas, 2023.
Regardless of what we do, or don’t do, there’s something special about this year. I’m rethinking the original story of Jesus, born to save His people from their sins. If all we do celebrate as a non-sacred event of parties and gifts, then we’ve missed the reason, trite as it may sound, for the season.
Immanuel…
“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign:
Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son,
and shall call His name Immanuel.”
(Isaiah 7:14, NKJV)
Imagine these early people who lived during the times of His birth. The songs they sing would not talk about Santa, Reindeers, Sleighs, or Christmas Trees. They would talk about divinity, God, Jesus, shepherds and angels. Their style of music would sound so more differently than our song today. Maybe it would be the simplistic style of a lute carrying the tune while the voices blend in harmoniously.
I love simple songs. This is one I’m learning to enjoy. Imagine a “first Christmas” song like this. It speaks to me of “God With Us.” I hope you enjoy as much as I do.
