If we trust God’s word to say how old the human race is, then imagine the thousands, million and billions who have lived before us. Then add the number of days that make up the years and centuries. An inestimable number of people on any day of the week, month or year, wake up to the morning just as you and I do today.

How many have started their morning in crisis mode?

What’s the average morning like? It’s hard to tell. The older I get it seems my morning starts earlier easier than ever before. I love watching “dark become light.”

A distinct memory comes to mine when living on a road called “Straight Arrow.” I’m standing in the front yard around 4:30 waiting for my daily newspaper. What? Yes. My morning routine demanded I read the headlines. Why? I don’t really know.

At the same time, scrambling for a cup of coffee and starting a cold car for the long slog to work that began at 7 a.m. From the burbs to downtown Houston. Get there early and maybe you’ll miss the worst traffic! Why? This I know. Wait for it… wait for it… I had responsibilities and I was accountable to myself to provide for the family.

This morning, on a vacation in an imperfect place but with really good temperatures, I’m asking myself how to bless this day so we can find the rest we came to seek.

This week has not been a typical vacation week.

It’s been one hurdle after another, and this morning I’m awaiting the other dropping shoe. There have been four “needs” I’ve had to handle. My bride began working a year assignment for her company, and though enjoying it, we had to move mountains to make it happen.

This morning I’m sitting at my computer, thinking, praying and writing. I don’t feel like Abraham who’s standing in the gap for his nephew, Lot, waiting for the other shoe to drop. Think Sodom and Gomorrah. But I do sit here waiting for the day to unfold. Will there be fire and brimstone? Or, will the sun set and not one email, text, messenger, social post or phone call bring more angst to deal with?

So. I pray a blessing on this day.
I ask God to keep me ready, but also let me relax.
I pray for a blessed work day for my bride.
I ask God to help us find joy in any corner of life.
Lord, bring us that peace that strengthens.
Help us to know your path for the day a
And give us the energy to face it head on.

Psalms 34:1-4, NKJV

I will bless the LORD at all times;
His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul shall make its boast in the LORD;
The humble shall hear of it and be glad.
Oh, magnify the LORD with me,
And let us exalt His name together.
I sought the LORD, and He heard me,
And delivered me from all my fears.
