When I was learning to pilot, my instructor would teach me normal maneuvers and something that was generally called “abnormal” or “unusual.” Suffice it to say your imagination at work can separate the two ideas.
One of my test flights, getting ready for my final check ride, was 3 hours long, and we went through the gambit of everything I may be tested on with the FAA Check Pilot. Toward the end, I got a touch of air sickness and turned the air vents to my face. My instructor realized I was approaching the edge and slowed the quiz down to sedate routines.
The one I remember as being the worst involved wearing a specially designed hood that kept me from observing landmarks and paying attention to the flight instruments to fly the airplane. It simulates flying in the clouds or at night when you cannot see the ground to orient yourself.
One of the tests required me to close my eyes, relinquish control of the yoke and pedals, and let the instructor throw that airplane all over the sky. When it was time, he would return control to me, and my job was to return the plane to a straight and normal flight and maintain altitude.
Normal or Abnormal. Usual or Unusual. You get the picture. The test was to determine if I could turn the negative into a positive.
To say the least, I was successful. I passed my exam.
That’s how we often feel when testing out at school or in a clinic. No matter the circumstances, we want to come out of the gyrations successfully. That’s what I feel about life.
Our GrandestTest In Life
When we reach the end,
What will be said about us?
Will the headstone tell the tale,
Or is our story better left unsaid?
Along the way, we are tried.
Sometimes we win, others we lose.
But the balance of everything?
It will be what’s remembered by others.
I know I want to reach my end,
Absent here, and then with Him.
Well Done… that’s what we want to hear.
By then, it will be too late for another chance.
This is my daily challenge.
Fail not to keep in mind,
That life lived here is just the beginning.
Eternity… Eternity will be forever.
Revelation 20:11-15 NKJV
Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it,
from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away.
And there was found no place for them.
And I saw the dead, small and great,
standing before God, and books were opened.
And another book was opened,
which is the Book of Life.
And the dead were judged according to their works,
by the things which were written in the books.
The sea gave up the dead who were in it,
and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them.
And they were judged, each one according to his works.
Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire.
This is the second death.
And anyone not found written in the Book of Life
was cast into the lake of fire.
