This past week has been hopping busy.
Too many tasks and actions to number.
But when you step into this day of rest,
Be thankful for those before, and those yet to come.
That’s the way I’m treating this Sunday.
Our “first day” of rest after a long series of slog.
Do this. Go there. Finish. Start. Push. Pull.
There’s even a bit of forcing that I feel.
To my bride this morning, I said,
Because of the past 14 days that we’ve lived
I’ll be glad when this day winds down
Thankful? Yes. But still in need of rest.
Bones and muscles ache.
Emotions are somewhat on edge.
The mind is loaded with too much data.
Ease the moment. It’s time to rest.
Then the next day comes,
It seldom stops or slows very much.
One thing after another, day by day,
Until that final sun goes down.
Live this day, and be thankful it’s here.
Tomorrow shows up soon enough,
And be thankful for it, then.
Right now, it’s your day. Live it. Love it. Move on.
Exodus 34:21 NKJV
“Six days you shall work,
but on the seventh day you shall rest;
in plowing time and in harvest you shall rest.
Isaiah 28:10-13 NKJV
For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept,
Line upon line, line upon line,
Here a little, there a little.”
For with stammering lips and another tongue
He will speak to this people,
To whom He said,
“This is the rest with which You may cause the weary to rest,”
And, “This is the refreshing”;
Yet they would not hear.
But the word of the LORD was to them,
“Precept upon precept, precept upon precept,
Line upon line, line upon line,
Here a little, there a little,”
That they might go and fall backward, and be broken
And snared and caught.
