The Control of On and Off

Yes. It’s not Cruise Control…
I’m waiting on my cruise to control my day.
And that was what yesterday was all about.
Cruise control from task to task…

There’s much about rushing through,
Back tracking, and feeling a bit lost
To understand that a destination on Cruise
Needs to be controlled… Still.

A standard day that’s acceptable
Task for any day of the week that’s livable.
Knowing that I’m quite able to do
What needs to be done, and then be done.

My day was full long before it arrived
But I keep squeezing in tasks
That’s really all I can do.
There’s no cruise to my control.

So I parked the truck at a favored coffee spot.
It was time for lunch no matter what.
While sitting and enjoying my writing time
I realize that no one else was quiet.

There were groups of people chatting
Loudly over the espresso being brewed.
Somehow they felt the need
To ensure I heard all their details.

A business meeting, golfing buddies,
And perhaps a senior clutch of ladies,
There are a few solo entrepreneurs
At least, that’s the excuse I give them.

My noise cancelling headsets were at home
Else I would not have heard…
”It’s just a joke, mom, it’s just a joke.”
By a young teen cornering the sound of the moment.

Time to sigh, get back into control
Cruise to my next destination. Early. Waiting.
I make the best of it, and the best was nice.
A family in the waiting room. Good Gospel Vibes!

Finally. Back home.
Hearing the news from my bride,
I realized, both of us had cruised,
But we were in control.

2 Peter 1:5-11 NKJV

But also for this very reason,
giving all diligence,
add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge,
to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance,
to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness,
and to brotherly kindness love.
For if these things are yours and abound,
you will be neither barren nor unfruitful
in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness,
and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.
Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent
to make your call and election sure,
for if you do these things you will never stumble;
for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly
into the everlasting kingdom
of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
