A morning routine helps me to succeed
To the calling that every day beckons
But not every morning fits the standard
Activities and lists I normally follow.
Tired from yesterday, and the morning slips away.
Frazzled from the brain cells kicking and snapping?
Somewhere in the morning, “cool” says watch out!
It’s going to be a scorcher of a day. Reboot.
What’s that song of our childhood?
Head for the hills and the cool valleys. Where?
North! Of course. It only takes a few hours.
But at the foot of a glacier, you have coolness delight!
Turn to your breakfast routine. Cereal. Coffee.
Then read your normal morning news and Word.
A devotion of my own. Think the Word through.
Prayer to set the day in order.
But wait. The cupboards are bare.
What’s missing? Just about everything.
How do I know?
The shopping list from last night tells m so.
Without milk, no cereal. Uh oh. Morning ruined?
Without pods, no coffee? Oh, my!
At least I can pour over and make a better
Than average cup of java. Grind some beans!
The convenience of the day typically ruins yesteryear.
Remember when you used to boil water and make a pot?
Coffee required the “drip grind” specially bought.
Pick up the wrong grind, and you’ll make a poorer cup.
The worst day of coffee beats the best day of soda and tea.
Why? It’s a bean, yes! It’s a fruit. One of my daily intakes!
Roasted and grinded, it smells most heavenly.
Could it be the nectar of the “gods?” Perhaps. Oh, well.
You’ve found me out. Growing, harvesting, roasting, and grinding.
Coffee is not just about the taste; it’s about the experience.
It’s not just the blackness or heat. It’s what is done before the brew.
Then, and only then, it’s all about the brew!
Nestled between the terror of the night and the morning of promise,
I like to think of Abraham in what might just be his morning routine.
Though yesterday was horrible, today has a promise of newness.
Keep to your morning routine.
Genesis 19:27-29 MKJV
And Abraham got up early in the morning
to the place where he stood before Jehovah.
And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah,
and toward all the lands of the plain,
and saw, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up
as the smoke of a furnace.
And when God destroyed the cities of the plain,
it happened that God remembered Abraham,
and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow,
when He overthrew the cities in which Lot lived.
