Every so often, I pause to renew
My sense of right and wrong,
North and South, East and West,
Yes. No. Perhaps. I dunno.
It’s never that I’ve been doing wrong
Or headed in an off-beat direction
But there is something to say
Of who I am, based on where I’ve been.
Every so often. Account for your thoughts.
Are they still congruent with your past?
We always grow and improve,
But the foundation of then sets me now.
Sometimes we adjust, adapt, re-think
New worlds identify what’s missing
Every so often, we fill in the gaps
But I know who I was is who I am.
In a pause of the moment,
Before I sit, think, and write,
I glance through the thirteen years of blogging
Am I still saying it right?
Sometimes the cobwebs need to be dusted away.
Other times I need to think,
What was I trying to say?
That’s when you read and soak it all in.
For the most part, a curious phrase indeed,
I’m happy with who I am, what I’ve said,
Where I’ve been, and the path on which I trod.
But it’s wise to compare. Just to be sure.
I’m never at a loss for something to write
There are times I want to read
What I said back then, Is it still true?… It is.
This affects me today, and that’s the truth.
Maybe we cannot say that about what we’ve done,
Or thought, or even verbalized.
But the thing I know so very well when committed
To the Written Word, it had better be true.
We remember what’s been said and done
But struggle with what’s been written about.
Consider that the words we put down
On a page or screen, it has a habit of never going away.
Every so often, give life and time a pause
Read back through your words
Forensically consider the truth.
Are you still saying what you said?
Every so often, this is something you should do.
