Are we there yet! I certainly hope not! You wait for snow to arrive, and in our zone it seldom stays very long. Is this the last of the season? Well, I certainly hope not!

As a kid in Houston area, I vaguely remember snow. Ill-prepared, dad helped us build a snowman the winter of 1959-60. No gloves, we quickly switched to a rake. Our coats were not warm enough, so we watched from the kitchen window as dad finished it off.

My sister would have been newborn, so dad took us boys on a drive to the Sam Houston monument. Beautiful. Fluffy snow everywhere!

Between 1959 and 1972, I’m sure we got a skiff every so often, but that last year of high school I was working at First State Bank of Greens Bayou. I slipped and slid down the road. My boss asked me to go around the community and take pictures. Best day at work!

I learned first hand how to drive in snow!

Eight years later? 1980…We moved to Alaska where I met Snow and Cold, my old friends from 21 years previously.

Since then, I’ve purposed to stay close to them. They’ve showed up as late as the first week of July, and as early as late September. Unless I go to them where they “summer” August has been the month we stay separated.

I guess you need a vacation from what you love.

Thanks for showing up!
