Anchor on a white ship side
My Anchor...and me

Early morning thought as I think about life.
What holds you in place, and what do you hold on to?
Faith. Family. Friends. Of course, we name them easily.
But what makes up the “you” that keeps “you” in place?

Some make their anchor the wealth they’ve worked hard for.
Their health, vim, and vigorously, they strive to be perfect.
They want the look of perfection always to show up and out.
Their “anchors” are flitting them through life. Here. There. Gone.

A song of old, “This anchor holds…” describes the storms
Regardless of intensity, you are always “in place.”
Why? That which holds you is your anchor.
Know it well, and build it strong.
Storms will arrive. Test it. You’re solid.

It’s not just about the anchor, but it’s also about you.
Will you, can you, hold it, hold on – never let go?
If the weakest of a chain is identified, we’ve learned…
It’s the link that holds it all together.

The spring that winds the clock,
The key that starts the motor,
The bolt which allows the pulley wheel to spin.
It’s the wedge hammered in an ax handle that keeps the ax head in place.

You may have a great anchor and a weak rope.
The right key with a missing tooth won’t do the job.
The pulley’s bold rusted, and worn
Will surely fail at all the wrong moments.

My point? I’m sure you’ll agree.
The anchor needs to be solid,
Just as your grip on the rope needs to be strong.
You have an anchor, a linkage, and a grip.
They work in concert, one with the other.

Anchor. Link. Grip. That’s the solidness of your position.
Working in tandem, keeping all parts operational.
Don’t deny it! We’ve often failed to hold on.
And the problem is not the anchor, it’s mostly “us.”
