Slice of wood made up of slivers
Just A Sliver

A sliver, piece, portion, or a part
When all is done and said, you know
That is the only thing you’ve acquired
It is a fragment of what’s out there.

A chunk, segment, hunk, or a wedge
You get more than you put it
What’s life if it’s all about getting
When there’s more to gain by giving

A parcel, section, slab, or just a bit
We want more but seldom work at it
My experiences tell me so much more
Than the smidgen, you gain from doing nothing

Life is to be experienced in full,
Or so the pundits say
But life in full means nothing new
So let’s approach attainment
by a sliver, piece, portion, or part.
Enjoy the bit before considering the whole.

Why? Limitless are the opportunities.
Yet you cannot and will never.
Enjoy the pie in just one sitting.
It’s better savored, byte by bite, just a bit, I say.

I bought a jug of coins from an auction
Online, unseen, just pictures
Like pirate’s gold, I took it home
But there was more that I could absorb

Yet, had I picked up the coins
One here, one there, one at a time
The joy over the one is better
Then the ninety-and-nine.

That’s what Jesus said.
The ninety-and-nine are safe.
Step out, go look, search, and find
That one that makes all of us rejoice.

Lesson? Learned! Take your time.
Build your world brick by tiny brick
You’ll never appreciate it better
If it had been given as a finalized piece.

The Journey, it’s better than the Destination
You enjoy it with all the ups and downs
But the experience will present you
To that final destination. Complete.

One second, minute, hour, or day
You can only enjoy the sliver
Until you look back at your history
Realize, you built best one at a time.

Just A Sliver: Limitless are the opportunities. Yet you cannot and will never. Enjoy the pie in just one sitting. It's better savored, byte by bite, just a bit, I say. Share on X
