It’s been a night of wandering wildlife
and my German Shepherds respond with barking.
All night long, or at least it seems.
Wildlife lives in the night, and so do cows.
Someone must be too near the fence.
If they would quit being guard dogs for one night
Perhaps I could get a full night’s sleep!
Outside dogs, ever vigilant, do a fine job
Of keeping danger at bay.
Today, and I know it won’t happen,
I would like to be in the middle of a quiet zone.
Shhh! Keep the noise down!
I need the peace of quiet, not the cacophony of most days.
There’s something about the early morn.
Before the loudness of the day begins
Long before the birds awake
Or the sun lights up from the east.
This doesn’t happen everywhere,
Jungles probably never sleep,
Nor do coyotes keep the noise down
But that split of time before night and day
There is something sacred, you almost want to pray
At the very least, join in, be quiet,
Soak up that soundless bite
When life wakes up, don’t hesitate to say
Shhh! Keep the noise down!
