Memory diseases are our foe, and it’s a shame that we have so many examples of these issues surrounding us. Yes. Even those senior moments.
When Michael Reagan visited his father,
former President of the USA, Ronald Reagan,
who was suffering from Alzheimer,
all President Reagan could remember about Michael was,
“That’s the man who kisses me.”
Dementia had set so far in that the only memory of his son was a single event. All the other memories? Gone, or at least not able to be recalled…
Whether we fight the disease of our mind or choose to remember only selected events, memory is a friend and a foe. We retain only certain parts of our history and prevent our recall from pulling out other portions of our conscious mind.
In other words? We can control what we remember unless it’s a disease that takes them away.
Memory is a mixed bag… an accelerant and
Memory is a frenemy… A friend and an enemy…”

The other day, I heard a sports interview where the athlete was talking about his Muscle Memory. It’s what you train yourself to remember, the swing of your club to hit the golf ball just right, without consciously attempting to train yourself on every hit. Muscle Memory is developed in the conscious and recalled from the subconscious. Imagine how you would have to envision every step without muscle memory! Through the tough times and the rosy times! Muscle memory keeps you picking up your feet and moving on!
Here’s My Thought Today
We train on the practice field for the contest on the real field.
If we can keep our focus on the path led by Jesus, we can win through the bad times and help others through their bad time. Why? We remember what it was like!
“Son, remember me….” ~Jesus
Memory helps us to fight the tempter. We remember right from wrong and make the better choice.
Memory Joys should crowd out the Memory Hurts.
They that are with us are greater than those against us! Memory can be your adversary or foe, but it can more perfectly be your Joy!
The people’s heart was still in Egypt when brought out of bondage. This is where the Bible starts describing Murmuring. A memory made them remember the good and forget the bad.
Jesus says, Remember Lot’s wife… (Luke 17:32) Do we need to analyze this any deeper? Of course. He’s reminding us to remember where she came from and what she was looking toward. Disobedience to God always goes wrong.
Ezekiel says the real sin of Sodom and Gomorrah was that they were arrogant, overfed, and unconcerned. This is why we need fire! Stir up the gift within. Pray, as if on fire! As it was in the days of Lot – complacency and looking back…
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering,
for He who promised is faithful.
And let us consider one another
in order to stir up love and good works,
not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together,
as is the manner of some,
but exhorting one another,
and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.
(Hebrews 10:23-25 NKJV)
Outrun a bad memory…Run back to God. He’ll meet you at the altar.
The greatest preachers in our lives? Consciousness and Memory, awareness and remember… “Twas Grace that taught my heart to fear, and
