It’s just the simplest of thoughts, this Monday morning. Based on knowledge and experience, I have a belief system that trusts in God (In God We Trust!). No matter the situation He takes care of me. I may not be the final product of his calling. I’m a work in progress and I’m headed the right direction.
Unbelief (GK. apistia) is the negative of a positive Faith (GK. pistis).
Notice the spelling. Same root, different tense.
When a need arose, the Disciples could not “perform.” Why? First time jitters? Perhaps. Lack of experience? Most probably.
“So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.”
(Matthew 17:20, NKJV)
How do you develop your Faith? Jesus goes on and tells us our beginning steps in the very next verse.
“However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”” (Matthew 17:21, NKJV)
Belief (Faith) brings success by our prayers and fasting. Together. At the same time. Today. Both. Not one and then the other.
Without prayers and fasting your belief system may only be superficial. Why? Jesus says that prayer and fasting brings you faith that was before an unbelief. The Negative of a Positive.
Faith is the Substance (Support, foundation) of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1) For by it, the elders obtained a Good Report (v2). Through Faith, we understand…and then the writer of Hebrews outlines the world of Faith and what we have trusted and believed to be the truth.
Faith is Positive. Unbelief is Negative. Both words have the same root foundation. It depends on which way you lean.
Me!
Yes. I believe. Do you?
