For all the times I fail:
To do good or expect more from me than I give.
For all the other times:
I’m mediocre, or even downright awful.
My sincere apologies.
I struggled one recent Sunday.
Felt the weight of responsibility and, although prepared,
The distraction bug was busy, and I failed
To do what needed to be done.
Bring it home. Encapsulated in a “Well done.”
Then, scoping out the truth this morning.
You know, we all struggle with giving our best
Especially when it is needed the most
For whatever reason, when we fail to rise to the challenge
We all apologize.
I’m famously comfortable with the football phrase
When push comes to shove? “Drop ten and Punt.”
Perhaps we need a sign flashing in the distant
To remind us all to forgive ourselves when
Good does not become Better, and a far cry from Best.
We think a wrong thought, say a wrong word,
And never push into the moment of strengthening
Ourselves, or the moment, so Best can be achieved.
For all the times like this from the past through the future?
My sincere apologies. Heartfelt, they are freely given.
So. Moving forward. Here’s my promise and dedication.
I want to be known for shifting when life needs to shift.
I have a word for that if it doesn’t meet your approval.
Will you accept it? It’s really up to you.
I apologize. Is that enough?
