Do you feel like driftwood?
Nothing on the horizon
But the same ol’ scene
Day in, Day out.
You have no plan of life
Until you write it down
Say, read and recite
Then live it day by day
Don’t be satisfied just drifting
Find your purpose, set a goal
It is said, do what you like
And you’ll never work a day in life
At some point you realize
What you are doing is
What God intended for you
Don’t be satisfied just drifting
Enjoy the calling
Stretch your wings and fly
You were made especially
To be the best version of you
A few years ago, while taking a drive on the Olympic Peninsula, I came across a piece of driftwood bobbing near the pebbled shore. It was in a lake, not the ocean, not sun-bleached but contained lots of colors. (It looks better when wet.) I carried it home, dried it out, and set it on a bookshelf. Why? I really don’t know. It was beautiful, doing nothing important, and would someday be burnt in a fire or corroded by time. Then, I wondered, did I take this lovely piece of wood from its intended purpose? Or, have I made it better? It’s just wood, true, but there are times in life when you get to thinking…what if?
Maybe this piece of driftwood simply floated by just to get me to think.
I cry out to God Most High, to God who will fulfill his purpose for me.
(Psalms 57:2 NLT)
