Words. The common element of our conversation. From “words” we find hope and despair and communicate victory and defeat. Yet, we search for words to describe our position, situation, and outlook. How many words does it take to communicate effectively?
English is populated with over 560,000 words. Other languages have more, quite a few have less. When you use a word to mean one thing or another, does it count as more than the one spelling of the sounds we make? That’s often the question. Words morph, grow in popularity, and then easily become archaic and unused.
Reading on my Kindle, and with an attached dictionary, I’m always looking up words to make sure I know what they mean in the midst of their usage! Though I love studying “words” I do enjoy technology that makes it easier.
