If you want to meet Jesus along the path of your life, it’s a simple thought. Go where He told you to go, and He will meet you there.
There’s an old song I remember from my childhood, and equally it’s on my heart and in my mind today.
I’ll go where you want me to go, dear Lord
Over mountain or plain or sea
I’ll say what you want me to say, dear Lord
I’ll be what you want me to be.
Of course, as is my normal habit, I research this song and find it may be out of the Mormon background, and it all makes sense. [Source] Back then, I would not have known it’s history, but think about the words. Not the source. Have you ever felt this way?
Who, What, When, Where, Why…How?
Through my years I’ve stretched my boundaries to include what I felt the Lord wanted out of my life. Where? Texas. Alaska. Texas. Alaska. Washington. What? I’ve been a bi-vocational minister through much of this journey.
My personality has been to look for beautiful places I can live in! Texas born and bred, but where are the mountains, cold and snow? Alaska! Yes! First there in 1977, then 1979, 80-86, 94-03…Back once to visit my sister in Dutch Harbor circa 2015. Then, God moved us to Washington for purpose, and we are still where he planted us!
I’m 49 years into my adult existence, and I’m still thinking these thoughts. Mountains. Cold. Snow!
However, what I’ve learned during these decades, it’s not so much about distance, but more about my next step. It’s more and deciding what is next, and simply be. And that’s the key. Be to become.
Jesus Plans For Us
After the cross, and before Pentecost, the disciples still needed guidance on their next move. Those 50 days (Pentecost means 50), they were still seeking their identity. The Great Commission is still 50 days away.
Yet, at the end, Jesus told them where he would be, and wanted them to go where they knew he would be. (Matthew 26:32) Then, on Resurrection morning, he told them several times. Go to Galilee. I’ll meet you there. (Matthew 28:7, 10)
Maybe this is what we need to know about the questions we have? If I am to be, say, or go where he wants me to, where is that place at?
Big Idea!
You can find Jesus where he planted you. There are no greener pastures anywhere else, unless he’s through with you here. From Jerusalem to Galilee was a 30 hour walk. Possibly several days, unless you are pushing your boundaries. When you get to where he said, you want to find him where he is.
Here’s my last few words on this unfinished thought. Just be what he wants you to be. Prove yourself where you are, and new paths will open at the right time, to the right place.
