We are pretty good at blaming others and life events for our failures and losses. It’s a game we play with ourselves. Finding who to blame so we can be sure we are not the cuprit!
Circumstances plow the ground but we are each accountable for the seed we sow, the watering and nurturing we apply. Even the weeding and tilling. It’s simply a game we play…
Hold It! You get to choose… enjoy the harvest or not.
Recently, I itemized those who have rejected me. I’m not sure why it came into my spirit, but I looked to see what blame I had for their choice. Yes. There was some. I accept it. Apologize for it. But the same thing should be said about all of us!
Realize our position, apologize for the mess, move on!
Nasty grams do no good. Honest conversation heals the breach. Screeching voicemails? I’ll never understand it. Letters to the judge and jury of popular opinion. Really? Social media has only made this worse!
Spiritual Thought
We read of Jesus reaching those from one of his favorite perches. The Mount of Olives.
But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. Now early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them.
Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst, they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?” This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him.
But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear. So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.”
And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. Then those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last.
…Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.”
And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”
(John 8:1-11 NKJV)
Jesus recognized the situation for what it was, and he soothed the savage beast with his response. Then… He refused to condemn and only command that the sin would no longer be committed.
How About You
Are you willing to let bygones be bygones?
We are helping someone who has a criminal past that, if it’s factual, is an abhorrent crime. Society cannot let it loose, but Jesus can. If he can, then so should I.
As someone from my family has been somewhat famous for saying:
