And We Know...
Write down what you know...

There is something foundational about affirming what we know to be true, right, and proper. Think about a couple who re-affirm their wedding vows again at a ceremony where perhaps their grown children can now celebrate with them. Or, why do we celebrate our birthdays every year with a “surprise”? Didn’t we know it was fast approaching?

We do not say the “ABC’s” again to remind ourselves that we know them. But we do use the song to help teach the next generation. Right? Knowing them, and then repeating them is not only an affirmation. It’s a teaching moment!

During times of affirming our country’s heritage, we often recite those important documents of our past.

We…the people…all are created equal…endowed rights…

Again, we reaffirm them, and acknowledge them to others! It’s not time to reinvent the past, but to affirm that who we are today is equal to the words that began us.

This is what I know…

While listening to an acquaintance share some mid-week Bible Study word, I made a section of his teaching a self-affirming foundational thought. He used it as the closing of his teaching, I wonder if we could not simply make this a very important part of our daily devotion.

Take any scripture of foundation that you quote, and at the beginning of the statement add this phrase… “And we know…

  • And we know… “…If God be for us, who can be against us?”  Romans 8:31 (KJV)
  • And we know… “…greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”  1 John 4:4 (KJV)
  • And we know… “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.”  Isaiah 54:17 (KJV)
  • And we know… “…When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.”  Isaiah 59:19 (KJV)

These were his examples, but if you think this through to an obvious conclusion, you can make them yours with your own scripture selection.

Testimony

We often feel oppressed, depressed, and every other ‘pressed we can imagine, but there’s something positive that happens when we reaffirm our foundation. Here’s something I know, I cannot “feel” my way through life without first acknowledging my foundation.

Revelations 12:11 tells us that we overcome the enemy of our soul by the “blood of the lamb, and the WORD of our TESTIMONY…” We do not defeat anything by living on our feelings.

Feelings are often not real.
Swayed by the present, haunted by the past, fearful of the future,
our feelings keep us in turmoil.

Any snake oil salesman will sell you a worthless product. How? By swaying your feelings to purchase! We know that endorphins are released as we laugh, but we cannot sustain laughing all day long! In the same way, we cannot live on what we feel, but rather on what we know.

Personal Testimony

I have my personal testimony from scripture that spoke to me [Click Here]. Middle of the night, dining room table, and at the age of 16, God pointed me forward with Scripture that has sustained me all my adult life.

Psalms 30:5 and Psalms 37:25. I’ve never seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging bread! And, weeping may endure for the night, but Joy cometh in the morning!

And I know… Yes! These are my foundational statements that I go to often to remind me it all ends up where God wants it to!

What Do You Know

What do you know that you keep whispering to your mind…. Something that helps you get through the struggle, overcome the temptation, stand up to the enemy, and conquer regardless of the odds?

Maybe you need to create your own list of statements that begin with the line…

And I Know…

And, if you don’t know, then maybe you need to live through a few experiences where the truth comes out and you then create your own statement. You know. From somewhere you’ve been delivered from, or saved out of.

I’m just saying… You know what you know, but you simply need to tell yourself over and over again. And I know…

Feelings are often not real. Swayed by the present, haunted by the past, fearful of the future, our feelings keep us in turmoil. Share on X
